Book of the Week 3/15

Here is the YA book you should be paying attention to, due in bookstores on Tuesday...

The Vampire Diaries: The Return - Midnight (L.J. Smith) - When I was growing up, The Vampire Diaries were my favorite books, period.  And L.J. Smith, may favorite author.  My tastes have changed a bit since then, but I still love L.J. and The Vampire Diaries will always hold a special place in my heart.  This is the latest book in "The Return" of the series that has taken place over the past few years.

  1. Hi :)

I just stumbled upon your site by accident and I'm enjoying the time I've spent here! It's refreshing to see someone closer to my age bracket reading YA novels. Especially when they seem to have also loved a lot of the same authors I loved growing up!

Question for you. Are you happy with the direction that LJ Smith was taking the newest Vampire Diaries books?

  2. Melissa - Honestly, I was pretty turned off by the first Vampire Diaries: The Return book, and while I wish I liked it more than I did, I hope she has a lot of success with the series just because I'm sick of teens in my bookstore saying it's a rip-off of Twilight, when The Vampire Diaries were originally published over a decade earlier. Plus, I LOVE the original series so much. It deserves the success. But yeah, The Return...I didn't even read the second book, let alone the third one. How do you like it? Is it worth getting back into?

  3. I actually feel about the same as you do. I read Nightfall ... and was trudging through it. I was hoping it would get better and better and yet all I could think was "What the heck happened to this story?" So I haven't even tried to get Shadow Souls. Maybe I'll try it if I come across it at the library or something, but I won't be buying it. Man. I even feel bad saying that. Sorry L.J.

I've been eagerly awaiting Strange Fate (like every other Nightworld fan out there) and I'm actually worried I won't like it.

I get what you're saying about these teens comparing Vampire Diaries to Twilight. It really pisses me off. That and when they compare The Last Vampire (oh sorry, Thirst) to Twilight and say that Christopher Pike stole ideas. It makes me just want to smack them.
